About Us

Making Strides of Virginia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been organized to provide adaptive (a.k.a. Therapeutic Riding) equestrian riding and carriage driving programs for children and adults with special needs, injured military personnel and veterans. Making Strides of Virginia also provides an Equine Services for Heroes program.  Equestrian activities provide a positive environment that supports the development of self-confidence, communication skills, physical abilities, and psychological support.

A significant need exists in the Central Virginia region for programs and services that focus on those with special needs, injured military personnel and veterans. Making Strides of Virginia is successfully serving our target demographic via individualized and group adaptive riding and driving lessons as well as equestrian care education and hands-on activities. Through our programs, we help improve the physical and emotional needs of our community, brighten lives, and assist each participant in achieving their personal goals.

Our activities are directed by a group of highly-qualified therapists, certified riding instructors and individuals with years of equestrian and adaptive services experience. Our diverse staff members have deep ties to the community and possess the unique ability to relate to our target demographic. Additionally, our Board of Directors is comprised of a professional group of talented individuals who have dedicated their time and resources to building a premier program and a stronger community.
